Fifth Block Timeframe for Summer 2012
February 1:
- All schools receive eligibility files from Accountability and Research (approximately 4,000 total students).
- Schools are required to identify incoming second and third graders (based on teacher recommendations).
- Streamline list and develop with first tier eligibility as well as second tier eligibility).
- For 5th grade and 8th grade to next levels, receiving school identifies number of slots available and sending school recommends students to attend and contacts parents. Middle School principal lets each of their elementary feeders know how many slots they are allowed. High schools let each of their feeder middle schools know the slots they have available. Inform receiving principal if a feeder school cannot fill its slots.
- Schools may start inviting students as soon as they have identified their students.
March 1:
- School staff must begin notifying parents of eligible students no later than March 1.
- Letters sent to parents with explanation of fifth block, expectations and acceptance contract to sign. The letter will not include transportation information but will indicate that this information will be available to parents by April 30 on the district website and provided to parents by each school at their parent meeting.
March 19:
- Deadline for students to be identified.
April 6:
- Personal invitations, whether in person or by phone, completed to parents of recommended students (if possible).
April 16:
- All signed parent contracts returned.
April 30:
- Confirm Fifth Block students (enter names as available and continue to submit as confirmed).
April 30 to May 4:
- Target dates for orientations to be held for parents and students at each site (orientation required but other dates may be selected) Bus schedules will be provided to all parents during the parent meetings.
- Orientations are held at the receiving school for 5th and 8th grade students.
May 16:
- School Library Services will have folders available to Fifth Block users with passwords and necessary information to allow students to check out book and log onto computers.
May 25:
- Teacher work day. No school for Fifth Block students.
May 29-June 28:
- Fifth Block of student instruction.
June 29:
- Teacher workday. No school for Fifth Block students.
- Report cards and surveys completed and all school materials turned in.
- Every student who attended Fifth Block during the last week must receive a report card.
- Progress reports provided to each elementary and middle school student and high school students receive grades.
